Rachelle here – founder of hearts 4 paws a non-profit cat rescue in Stratford. Since July 2019 we have taken in over 55 cats and adopted out 53 to their forever homes, with the majority of them being Senior cats surrendered because their owners could no longer take care of them. We have an Angel Fund set up so that every cat that comes through our rescue can receive medical care, medicine and up to date vaccines. We are partnered with other organizations & networks for our spay/neuters.
We are 100% volunteer run, foster based rescue with no government or city funding. Since I started the rescue I have been using my own money from the commission I make through my business. The small adoption fees only cover a fraction of the costs. We have relied on donations from our community to keep the rescue going and some small fundraisers.
I have been helping rehome cats for over 10 years through a fb group I created “Stratford Animal Community Support Group” before I officially formed Hearts 4 Paws Rescue back in June 2019. I am also the past chair of the Stratford Perth Humane Society Community council that was dismantled shortly after the new shelter open in Stratford. I had been very active in volunteering my time there for many years.
We are excited to be starting a post cast series, which will include some of our experiences rescuing 55 cats since our inception, but most importantly we want to create awareness and address some concerns about all the current issues relating to animal welfare as well as misdirected funding in our community. For those of you who know me, I am very passionate about animal welfare. So we are working on our very first podcast “Whistle Blower Series” Stay tuned for more information.
Our ultimate goal for these pod casts is not only create awareness surrounding current animal welfare issues, but to create constructive discussion to make positive change in our community for not only the wellbeing on our animals but for the people who care for them. We would like to do some interviews with other rescues and community members to get their feedback as well.
Thank you for your patience and support, as this will be a bit of an undertaking for me as I am also very busy running my mortgage business which substantially funds our rescue. But I look forward to doing some informative podcasts to help foster relationships with other organizations and ultimately make positive change that is critical to the welfare of the animals in our community,
